🛒 Ingredients

  • #Main Ingredients;
  • 80 g rolled oats (gluten‑free if needed)
  • 200 ml unsweetened plant‑based milk (oat, almond, or soy — your choice)
  • 1 medium ripe banana — half mashed, half sliced for topping
  • 100 ml water.. 1 pinch of sea salt
  • ½ tsp ground cardamom (or 3–4 crushed pods, seeds only)
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon (optional, enhances warmth)
  • 1–2 tsp maple syrup or agave nectar — adjust to taste
  • #Optional Toppings;
  • Extra banana slices.. A sprinkle of rolled oats
  • A light dusting of cinnamon.., A drizzle of maple syrup
  • Chopped nuts or seeds (almonds, walnuts, chia, or pumpkin seeds)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the banana; Peel the banana. Slice half of it into nice rounds and set aside for topping. Mash the remaining half thoroughly with a fork until smooth and creamy — this will sweeten and enrich the porridge naturally.

  2. 2

    Combine and heat; Place the oats, plant‑based milk, water, mashed banana, ground cardamom, cinnamon (if using), and pinch of salt into a small saucepan. Stir well to combine everything evenly.

  3. 3

    Simmer gently; Cook over medium‑low heat, stirring frequently, until the mixture comes to a gentle simmer. Then lower the heat slightly and keep cooking for 8–10 minutes, stirring often, until the oats soften and the porridge thickens to your preferred creaminess. If it becomes too thick, simply add a splash more milk or water and stir through.

  4. 4

    Sweeten and finish; Once cooked to perfection, remove from heat. Stir in the maple syrup or agave nectar — taste and adjust sweetness to your liking. The banana already adds lovely sweetness, so start with a little and add more if needed.

  5. 5

    Serve beautifully; Pour into your favourite warm bowl. Arrange the fresh banana slices on top in a lovely pattern. Sprinkle with extra cardamom or cinnamon, a few extra oats or seeds, and a final light drizzle of maple syrup. Enjoy immediately while warm and wonderfully fragrant!
