🛒 Ingredients
- 1 long crusty baguette or rustic white loaf (vegan‑friendly)
- 100 g high‑quality vegan block butter, softened to room temperature
- 5–6 large garlic cloves, very finely minced or crushed
- 2 tbsp fresh flat‑leaf parsley, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp fresh chives or thyme (optional).. ½ tsp fine sea salt
- Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
- ¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for a gentle kick)
- 1 tsp lemon zest (optional, brightens the flavour)
👩🍳 Instructions
- 1
Make the garlic butter: In a small bowl, mash the softened vegan butter until smooth. Stir in minced garlic, herbs, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, and lemon zest (if using) until evenly blended.
- 2
Cut the loaf: Use a sharp knife to make deep, evenly spaced cuts along the bread — cut almost all the way through, but leave the bottom crust connected so the loaf stays intact.
- 3
Fill & coat: Spoon or brush the garlic butter generously into every cut and crevice, then spread any remaining butter all over the top and sides of the loaf.
- 4
Wrap & bake: Wrap loosely in foil (leave a small opening at the top for crispness) or place on a baking tray lined with parchment. Bake at 190 °C (375 °F) for 12 minutes, then open the foil and bake for another 3–6 minutes until the crust is golden, crispy, and the butter is bubbling.

Serve: Sprinkle with extra fresh herbs if desired, then pull apart and enjoy warm.
