Vegan Creamy Hot Chocolate

Smooth, velvety, and deeply indulgent hot chocolate with a rich chocolate flavour and perfectly balanced sweetness — made entirely without cow’s milk, cream, or animal products. It has the same comforting warmth and creamy mouthfeel as traditional versions, with options to make it extra thick, luxuriously rich, or light and refreshing.

đź›’ Ingredients

  • 500 ml unsweetened plant milk (oat, soy, or cashew milk give the creamiest result; almond or coconut work too)
  • 60 g dark vegan chocolate (70% cocoa or higher), finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (good quality, dark)
  • 1–2 tbsp maple syrup, coconut sugar, or agave nectar (adjust sweetness to taste)
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract.. Pinch of fine sea salt (enhances chocolate flavour)
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon or cayenne pepper (optional, for extra warmth)
  • #Toppings (all vegan);
  • Coconut whipped cream or plant‑based whipped topping
  • Extra cocoa powder or grated chocolate
  • Marshmallows (vegan).. A dusting of cinnamon

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. 1

Mix base: In a small saucepan, whisk together plant milk, cocoa powder, salt, and sweetener over medium‑low heat. Whisk continuously until smooth and steaming — do not bring to a rolling boil.

  2. 2

Melt chocolate: Add the chopped dark chocolate and stir gently until completely melted and the drink is smooth and glossy. Stir in vanilla and any optional spices.

  3. 3

Adjust taste: Taste and add more sweetener or cocoa if desired. If too thick, stir in a splash more milk; if too thin, simmer gently for 1–2 minutes more.

  4. 4

Serve: Pour into warm mugs, top generously with coconut whipped cream, extra cocoa, or grated chocolate, and enjoy immediately.
