Channa Masala

Channa Masala is a legendary vegetable dish from North India that is loved all over the world, completely 100% plant-based!Chickpeas cooked until perfectly soft, soaking in a thick, savory, and aromatic tomato and spice sauce. This dish is very special because it is rich in balanced spice flavors, slightly spicy, fresh sour, and naturally savory without any animal ingredients at all.It is delicious served warm with rice, Naan bread or chapati flatbread.

🛒 Ingredients

  • #the main ingredient:
  • 250 grams of dried chickpeas, soaked until they expand
  • Two onions, finely chopped
  • Three red tomatoes, puree/blend
  • 3 cloves of garlic and 1 piece of ginger, finely chopped
  • Two green chilies, sliced (adjust to your preference for spiciness)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • #masala spices;
  • One teaspoon of coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt masala
  • Salt and a little sugar to taste
  • One teaspoon of lime juice
  • Fresh coriander leaves for sprinkling

    Boil the chickpeas in fresh water until soft but not broken, drain and set aside.

    Heat oil, sauté onions until soft brown. Add ginger, garlic, and chilies, sauté until fragrant.

    Add all the ground spices, stir quickly, then add the pureed tomatoes. Cook until the tomatoes break down and the oil separates from the spices.

    Add boiled chickpeas and enough water, bring to a boil then reduce heat.Cover and cook slowly for 20 to 25 minutes until the sauce thickens and the spices are completely absorbed.

    Add the salt masala, lime zest, and adjust the seasoning to taste. Remove from heat, sprinkle with coriander leaves, and serve warm. Your delicious meal is ready to be enjoyed!
