Tofu Teriyaki

🛒 Ingredients

  • 300 grams of dried firm white tofu/silk tofu. Cut into squares or rectangles.
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (to make the surface of the tofu crispy)
  • Oil for sautéing/frying
  • Roasted sesame seeds and sliced spring onions for garnish
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable soy sauce (As a sauce ingredient)
  • 2 tablespoons coconut sugar/granulated sugar (as a sauce ingredient)
  • One tablespoon of vegetable mirin or apple/pineapple juice (As a sauce ingredient)
  • One teaspoon of finely grated ginger (as a sauce ingredient)
  • 1 clove of grated garlic (as a sauce ingredient)
  • Dissolve one teaspoon of cornstarch in 2 tablespoons of water. (as a sauce ingredient)
  • 50 ml water for teriyaki sauce ingredients

    Prepare the tofu: wipe the tofu with kitchen paper until dry, coat it lightly with cornstarch.

    Cook the tofu. Heat the oil. Cook the tofu until it is browned on all sides and slightly crispy. Remove and set aside.

    Make the sauce: In the same pan, add all the sauce ingredients except the cornstarch solution and bring to a boil. Add the cornstarch solution and stir quickly until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.

    Mix: put the tofu back into the sauce, stir gently until the entire surface of the tofu is evenly coated with the spices.

    Serve: Remove from heat, sprinkle with sesame seeds and spring onions, and enjoy while warm!
