Apple Pie vegan

It has a crispy, savory, melt-in-your-mouth dough crust, filled with fresh, soft-cooked apple pieces, naturally sweet, and seasoned with the distinctive aroma of cinnamon and nutmeg. Without using animal butter, eggs, or milk, this recipe still produces the same delicious texture and taste as the original version. The apple filling blends perfectly with the lightly caramelized sugar coating, resulting in a balanced, fresh sweetness. Perfect served warm or cold as a dessert, or as a special treat for family gatherings!

🛒 Ingredients

  • 250 grams of all-purpose flour
  • 100 grams cold vegan butter, cut into small cubes
  • One tablespoon of fine granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine salt
  • 4 to 5 tablespoons of ice water to taste
  • 5 to 6 medium-sized apples (sweet and sour apples are preferred) peeled, cored, and cut into thin slices
  • 80 grams of granulated sugar or coconut sugar
  • One tablespoon of cornstarch (as a natural thickener)
  • One tablespoon of lime juice
  • One teaspoon of cinnamon powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg powder (optional, for a richer aroma)
  • One tablespoon of vegan butter
  • One tablespoon of water or apple juice
  • A little powdered sugar for sprinkling
  • Vegan vanilla ice cream (optional, for serving) as a topping

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. 1

Make the pie crust; combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cold butter and rub it in with your fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs. Gradually add the ice water while stirring until the dough comes together. Divide the dough into two portions, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

  2. 2

Prepare the filling: mix the apple slices with the sugar, cornstarch, lime juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir well until all the apples are coated with the spices. Let stand for 10 minutes to release some of the juices.

  3. 3

Assemble the pie: roll out one portion of the dough until thin, place it in the pie pan, smooth it out and tidy the edges. Pour the entire apple filling and juice into a baking dish. Top with a slice of vegan butter.

  4. 4

Cover and bake: Roll out the remaining pastry dough and cover the top with the apple filling. Crimp the edges and poke a few holes with a fork to allow steam to escape. Brush the surface with a little water and low-savory sugar if you want a shinier appearance.

  5. 5

Baking process: bake in a preheated oven at 180%C for 40 to 45 minutes until the skin is golden brown and the filling looks bubbly.

  6. 6

To serve: Remove from heat and let cool slightly to allow the filling to firm up. Slice and serve warm or cold, as desired. The dish is ready to be served!
